Child HealthA practical overview of fever and when parents should seek medical advice.
Fever is a common sign that the body is responding to an infection. Encourage your child to take fluids and allow adequate rest. Dress the child comfortably rather than bundling them in heavy clothing. The importance of a fever depends on the child's age, temperature, symptoms and overall condition. Very young infants with fever require prompt medical assessment. Seek urgent medical care if your child has difficulty breathing, is difficult to wake, has a seizure, appears severely unwell, has signs of dehydration, or you are seriously concerned.
