Healthy Sleep Habits for Children

Published 22 Sep 2026
Sleep
Simple routines that can help children develop healthy sleep habits.
A predictable bedtime routine can help children settle for sleep. Keep bedtime and wake-up times reasonably consistent and create a calm sleeping environment. A quiet activity such as reading can become part of the bedtime routine. Avoid stimulating screen use close to bedtime and keep devices away from the child's sleeping area when possible. Sleep needs vary by age. If your child snores frequently, has pauses in breathing during sleep, struggles to stay awake during the day, or has ongoing sleep problems, discuss this with your pediatrician.
